Peter Hart's Pen Bay Mall offers design of simple non-interactive websites for Maine businesses at a reasonable cost.  Peter's style of web design produces pages that resize well, so that viewers are less likely to have the annoying need to scroll from left to right to read each line, even if they are viewing your site in a small window. (Try experimenting with shrinking the size of this page to see how small you can make it before a scroll bar appears at the bottom of the page.)  The 'boxy' look of this page is characteristic of websites that Peter builds.

Web Hosting

Web hosting is available from Pen Bay Mall for websites that are designed and maintained by Pen Bay Mall.  A variety of plans is available.  We suggest starting with our plan that provides 100 megabytes of storage space and allows up to 1 gigabyte of transfer per month.  This plan is available from us for an annual fee of $99.

Pen Bay Mall does not offer owner-maintained web hosting because we do not have the help staff that would be needed to support users.

Penobscot River Mall

Penobscot River Mall is a website that advertises businesses in the State of Maine.  Each member business has its own web page with a web address that the business can advertise on its business cards, other stationery, bumper stickers, or in any other advertising the company wants to include it in.  The web page is a miniature website for the company.  It can serve as the company's primary website, or it can link to another more sophisticated website that the company has outside of Penobscot River Mall.

Each member company's Penobscot River Mall web page is listed in several Penobscot River Mall business directories, allowing potential customers to look them up by name, by location, or by type of business.  Optionally, listings are also available in a fourth directory which lists specific products.

Online Announcement Pages

Pen Bay Mall offers convenient user-maintained announcement pages as an add-on product available to member businesses of Penobscot River Mall.  These pages can be maintained by a person with no knowledge of HTML coding, simply by going to a private password-protected web page and entering the desired text in a form. 

We suggest the online announcement pages for businesses that have frequently changing information.  A restaurant could list daily specials.  A used car dealer could make a simple listing of cars in stock today.

The domain name penbaymall.com was registered in 1999, and the first Pen Bay Mall website was hosted by Maine's well-respected ISP, Midcoast Internet Solutions.  Pen Bay Mall's early website was a directory for only a few types of businesses in Knox, Waldo, and Hancock counties, Maine's counties along the shore of Penobscot Bay.  Nowadays, Penobscot River Mall, a service of Pen Bay Mall (Peter D. Hart dba Pen Bay Mall), is available as a directory for qualifying businesses across the State of Maine.
